Apple pie is a classic dessert that is always a crowd-pleaser. There’s something about the warm, sweet aroma of apples, cinnamon, and sugar that just makes you feel cozy and comforted. This homestyle apple pie recipe is easy to make, and it yields a delicious pie that is perfect for any occasion.
The first step in making this apple pie is to preheat your oven to 375°F. While your oven is preheating, place a cookie sheet lined with foil in the oven to preheat as well. You’ll place your prepared apple pie on this cookie sheet to bake. This step ensures that the bottom of the pie cooks evenly and doesn’t become soggy.
Next, peel, core, and thinly slice six cups of apples, using half Granny Smith and half Jonagold. Place the sliced apples in a large mixing bowl and toss with one to two tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and one teaspoon of lemon zest. This will prevent the apples from turning brown and add a bright, fresh flavor to the pie.
