Savory Hungarian Cheese Spread (Körözött)

Körözött, a traditional Hungarian cheese spread, is a family favorite in many households. This delicious appetizer is made with whipped cream cheese, feta cheese, scallions, and Hungarian sweet paprika. It’s an easy and quick appetizer to prepare that is always a hit with guests. My husband has fond memories of his mother making Körözött for family gatherings, and I am thrilled to share this recipe with you. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make this savory cheese spread in no time.

To make Körözött, begin by bringing the cream cheese, feta cheese, and butter to room temperature. Once they have softened, place them in a mixing bowl and add the chopped scallions, Hungarian sweet paprika, and salt. If you want to add extra flavor, you can also add prepared mustard and caraway seeds (I prefer without). Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, blend all the ingredients until they are well combined and smooth. You can adjust the seasoning to your taste by adding more paprika or salt.

Once the cheese spread is ready, transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with extra scallions. Serve the Körözött with an assortment of crackers, French baguette, pumpernickel, or rye bread. This recipe is perfect for any occasion, from a family gathering to a party with friends. It’s a crowd-pleaser that everyone will love. You can also make it ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. Körözött is a traditional Hungarian cheese spread that is easy to make and always a hit with guests!
